Consolidation

Consolidation occurs when the shipping company or carrier, accepts consignments of goods that are smaller than the capacity of a container (in terms of volume.) The carrier will cluster various smaller consignments, also know as partloads or LCL, until they can fill one container. That container has then been consolidated with loads.
