From the end of 2026, companies will face new obligations concerning deforestation-free products. What does this mean for your customs process?
The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) applies to, among others, cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy and wood, as well as various products made from these commodities.
Companies must be able to demonstrate that these products do not contribute to deforestation and have been produced in accordance with the legislation of the country of production.
When will the rules apply?
The main deadlines are:
- 30 December 2026 for large and medium-sized companies;
- 30 June 2027 for most micro and small companies;
- 30 December 2026 for small companies that are already covered by the EU Timber Regulation.
What does this mean for your customs process?
The obligations that apply depend on your products, company size and role in the supply chain. You may, among other things, need to collect information about your supplier, origin and geolocation and submit a Due Diligence Statement (DDS).
For imports and exports, where applicable, the DDS reference number must be available before the customs declaration is submitted.
