Since August 3, 2026 a new requirement from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) applies to container shipments to Kenya. For every container destined for a Kenyan port, an Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD) must be requested in advance.
Exporters shipping goods to Kenya must request an ACD reference number at the time of container stuffing via acd.kra.go.ke
To obtain this reference, a draft Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Freight Invoice and Export Declaration must be submitted, among other documents.
The ACD reference number must then be stated on the Bill of Lading before the shipment departs for a Kenyan port. It is therefore important that the required documentation is available in good time.
For exporters this means that preparation of a shipment to Kenya must be completed earlier. Failure to provide the required information on time may lead to delays and additional costs.
