The global ocean freight market is currently experiencing an unusually early start to the traditional peak season. Demand for container capacity is increasing faster than normal, resulting in rising freight rates.
Embassy is also seeing available capacity at various shipping lines decline rapidly. In particular, trade routes between Asia and Europe are experiencing increased pressure due to growing shipment volumes, leading to higher ocean freight rates and additional peak season surcharges that will be introduced from June onwards.
In addition, congestion and operational delays at major Northern European ports, including Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Antwerp, continue to cause longer transit times and disruptions throughout supply chains. Due to limited available capacity, preferred sailings may reach full capacity more quickly, making alternative departures necessary.
To minimise delays, Embassy recommends submitting new bookings as early as possible so that capacity can be secured with shipping lines in advance.
Market expectations indicate that pressure on capacity and freight rates will continue throughout the summer months leading into the traditional peak season during the third quarter.
